Technical Presentations: Skills And Features
|
As a technical professional or an engineer, you are often required to make technical presentations. These presentations are made during briefings, meetings and sharing of findings of researches and reports. These presentations are also made during the course of training and education. There are three elements that are most important for a technical presentation. First is the organization of the research materials. As you might already know, organization of the research you have done is extremely important. It gives you an outline for your presentation, which makes your job much easier. The second essential feature is the usage of visual aids. These audios and visuals don't only make your presentations innovative, but also capture the interest of the audience. The last element is your delivery and style. This means that the way you present yourself and your presentation reflects your preparation. This is the only way you can manage to impress your audience, even if your research is not so substantial. While making a technical presentation, you should time each portion of your presentation. There are various types of technical presentations, each of which must be dealt with differently. Presentations that require technical briefings must not exceed more than ten minutes and must use a systematic approach. You must always organize the technical material of the briefing into a presentation that is concise. Design the presentation in a manner that it meets the needs and interests of the audience and suits their levels of knowledge. A proposal is another type of technical presentation. This type of presentation must not exceed more than ten minutes as well. However, you may add a three to five minute period for questioning. A proposal may be used to prepare a technical presentation that advocates a service, course of action, idea or product. The objective of this technical presentation is to present your viewpoint convincingly and logically with the help of flip charts. They must be used effectively to illustrate your message. It can also be explained with the help of inverted pyramid approaches. Also, this can be used to handle the question and answer session efficiently. Before you make a technical presentation, ensure that you know and remember the Do's and Don'ts. The most effective presentation is the one in which the presenter is clearly audible and sounds absolutely fresh and energetic. The best presenters are those who can put forward a polished self, look and sound natural and are human and not robotic. Remember technical presentations require similar skills as any other presentation. The only difference is that you have to be more focused and grab the topic from its collar. |
